If there was one word to describe my hope for the women of The BeYoutiful Project, it would be, FREEDOM!
Freedom is defined as: the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
The women this past Saturday came from various backgrounds and with various types of baggage, but the one thing that many of them had in common was the lack of freedom. In speaking to a few of them at Saturday’s event, it hurt me to hear that another human being was able to bruise them so deeply to the core, to the point of feeling trapped, worthless, powerless, fearful and hopeless. Truth be told many of us who look like we have it all together, struggle or have struggled with being free. Breaking free from what has happened or happening in our lives can be very difficult, especially when you feel alone. That is why I believe God gave me The BeYoutiful Project. The project is more than meeting the physical need of new clothes, pampering, makeover and a little financial assistance it was created to show, through us, the love of God. To offer encouragement and a listening and understanding ear to help the women break the chains of bondage and to take back their freedom! The BeYoutiful Project team has definitely put into action my favourite scripture verse for this season in my life Philippians 2 v 3-4 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
I pray that these women will find the power to act and move from their current circumstance. The power to speak life back into their hopes and dreams and to speak daily words of affirmation to help them achieve their God given purpose. The power (in the words of Saturday's key note speaker Sherika Powell) to think that they are enough, that they have influence, that they have a gift that others need, and that they matter!
